Manav Subodh: Nurturing talent through 1M1B

(April 27, 2024) Manav Subodh, Founder of 1M1B (One Million for One Billion), a UN accredited youth and AI focused skilling organisation is making a compelling case for finding talent across the country. 1M1B, aims for nothing short of the moon. The vision is to become India’s beacon of purpose in social entrepreneurship – breaking into the top 10 social organisations globally within a decade. The team aspires to be synonymous with change-making excellence, the ‘Harvard for change-makers,’ where the passionate and the purposeful converge to ignite social change.

Driven to make a change

Manav Subodh grew up with a sense of pride and a strong desire to showcase India on the world stage. Completing his engineering and MBA meant that he had a flourishing corporate journey across the globe, culminating in a 17-year journey of transforming markets and minds through marketing, sales, product development, and communications. “My career then took an unexpected turn into corporate and public affairs, nudging me towards a world where business meets government and societal impact,” he says.

 At Intel, he spearheaded initiatives bridging entrepreneurship with education, later amplifying this impact in the Americas, Middle East, and Africa, which only worked to strengthen his resolve to create such change in India’s hinterlands. With a decade at Intel, managing multi-million-dollar projects, he felt a stronger call to serve his country, leading him to UC Berkeley. “There, the freedom to innovate, fail, and pivot reshaped my vision. I found that the cut-throat and competitive Indian education system was not as forgiving to failures. The U.S. education system, with its emphasis on open innovation, trial-and-error, and networking, didn’t just teach me; it transformed me into a change-maker and a global citizen,” he explains.

Going Beyond

1M1B was born out of inspiration from Berkeley’s ethos – to go beyond yourself and to work for the community. “This powerful idea ignited a question within me: Could I catalyse the creation of change-makers on a massive scale? Thus, 1M1B, or ‘1 Million for 1 Billion,’ emerged with a mission to forge one million change-makers to transform a billion lives. This vision was not just about education; it was about revolutionising mindsets and empowering the youth with empathy, collaboration, and resilience, while instilling in them the courage to embrace failures as stepping stones,” he avers. Transitioning from the corporate sphere to entrepreneurship was however no walk in the park. “It meant giving up the security of a well-oiled corporate machine – where I got to visit over 30 countries, enjoyed predictable appraisals and salary hikes, and led a life of relative luxury. The shift was seismic – from boardroom meetings and business class flights to Ola’s and staying-at-friends. My commitment was tested in every aspect, from financial stability to personal comfort, but it was always worth it,” he opines.

Making a Difference

At 1M1B, the team’s work with youth rests on three pillars – change-making, AI for a better world, and green skills. Over nine years, they have empowered approximately 600,000 young minds across 29 Indian states, infusing them with the skills to be tomorrow’s leaders. “Our partnerships with giants like IBM, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, and Meta underline our commitment to blending corporate excellence with social innovation. Our presence at the UN headquarters in New York, through eight global summits, underscores our unique position as the frontrunner in India for youth-led global discourse on change and innovation. The 1M1B Activate Summit is our annual showcase, highlighting transformative stories from India, demonstrating the power of AI and technology in fostering green skills and sustainable development,” says Subodh. But beyond the numbers and events, the core mission is to democratise opportunity for all youth. “We ensure that our programs are as accessible in the prestigious corridors of international schools as they are in the humble classrooms of tribal Chhattisgarh. Our collaboration with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the establishment of village centres exemplifies our dedication to creating an equitable platform for education and empowerment,” he adds.

Passion for Change

What fuels Subodh’s passion is the transformative impact on the lives of young individuals. Every day as he works, he talks and mentors his younger self. “Witnessing a young person flourish because of 1M1B’s influence is honestly my only life’s mission. But at the heart of my motivation is the constant desire to learn and grow. I cherish the inquisitive spirit of my younger student self and strive to maintain that curiosity throughout my entire life. In every interaction, I lead with confidence without attitude, a principle that shapes my approach to leadership and service,” he says.

Entrepreneurship to Subodh, in its true essence, is a calling, not “a job as he believes it is a life’s mission that demands unyielding commitment and passion. If you don’t feel that innate pull, that relentless drive to pursue your entrepreneurial vision, then it may not be your path. I like to think of entrepreneurship like a love affair, marked by a rollercoaster of emotions, irrational decisions, and unexpected challenges. It’s a journey where logic often takes a backseat to passion. Practically speaking, start your entrepreneurial journey as early as possible. While technology startups may seem more straightforward, social entrepreneurship carries its unique set of challenges and rewards,” he adds.

Navigating Hurdles

Over the last nine years, he has learnt that your network truly is your net worth. “It is the collective strength of friends and supporters worldwide that has prevented me from faltering. Good work done with integrity attracts support; it’s a magnetic force that draws in people. Even in moments of scarcity, when partners and funds seemed elusive, my network, including those from my Intel days, provided unwavering support. The lesson is clear: cherish and nurture your relationships, from peers to juniors. They are not just contacts but lifelines that sustain your mission and vision, especially in times of need,” he says.

A Full Life

In those few moments away from his entrepreneurial pursuits, he revels in exploring the world with his loved ones and has ventured into the world of podcasting. Looking ahead he wants to build the 1M1B Green Skills Academy, a full-fledged campus dedicated not just to academic degrees, but to practical, impactful learning aimed at combating the climate crisis. This academy will become a crucible for the green workforce of tomorrow, training not only in India but setting a global precedent in environmental education. “We envision a future where every sector, from law to technology, from policy making to architecture, integrates eco-friendly principles at its core. The urgency of climate action is undeniable, and through 1M1B, we are committed to accelerating the pace of change, equipping individuals with the skills to make a tangible difference in the world’s environmental future,” he concludes.

Princess Diaries: A Begum from the Asaf Jahi dynasty is on a ‘royal’ mission

(January 30, 2023) When Sahebzadi Feroze Jahan Begum wore her ancestral ‘khada dupatta’ (stole) for her wedding, it drew a lot of attention, worldwide. Passed down to her by her grandmother Sahebzadi Masarrat Begum, the antique fabric and the craftsmanship that went into creating a garment worthy of a princess made it a one-of-a-kind piece. After all, it was worn by the royals in the Asaf Jahi dynasty, who once ruled the kingdom of Hyderabad. The admiration that came her way for her royal outfit gave birth to a mission, which was to connect the past with the present by reviving the ancient and dying traditions in handicrafts, hand looms, painting, architecture and more. The great-granddaughter of the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur, few are better placed than Sahebzadi Feroze Jahan Begum to revive the India’s rich and storied royal Nizamate. “The rich culture and heritage of the previous generations is lost. Preserving a royal legacy

An advocate for the preservation of the country’s regal heritage, Begum says she wants people to be proud of the Nizam’s era. “Every piece of clothing in that era is a masterpiece. I want to tell the world everything about my illustrious ancestors,” she says, of her mission. Born and brought up in Hyderabad, Feroze Jahan Begum studied at Nasr School, chose humanities and graduated with a degree in Psychology from Villa Marie College.

She then went on to pursue fashion from FAD, Dubai, the premier Institute honouring internationally certified courses in Fashion design and styling. “This course in Dubai gave me the wings to turn my dreams into reality. It enabled me to see the finer details in the royal outfits worn by my ancestors,” says the fashionista, who is married to Mumbai-based businessman Syed Abbas Ali.

Growing up in the royal family, she has plenty of tales to tell. “Once, an uncle of mine shot a tiger in the jungles of Karnataka when the animal had turned man-eater. In the pitch dark surroundings, the tiger was pouncing on the tree when a staffer threw light on him with a torch and my uncle took the shot. The animal was brought home after hunting and its skin preserved,” says the globetrotter, who has many more such royal stories to share.

Mission to spread awareness

Coming back to work, Begum has embarked on a long tour as part of her mission to spread awareness about the bygone era. She aims to cover all the palaces, heritage monuments and royal architecture. Her first stop was Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.

“There is historic evidence of associations between the Nizam — a 21-gun salute state and Begums of Bhopal, a 19-gun salute state,” she explains adding that the insignia of Bhopal state, disbanded by Bhopal Municipal corporation three years ago, was a mark of allegiance to the Nizam of Hyderabad. “It was Bhopal insignia from about 1740 onwards. Between 1819 and 1926, four Muslim women rules ruled Bhopal, which was the second largest Muslim state in India,” she explains.

As Begum tries to has been promote her Asaf Jahi family heritage and highlight the royal India in every space possible, she believes that the royal families of north India are far more connected. “There are no great patrons of royalty in the central and south-east of the country,” she feels.

Her next stop is Bengaluru and Mysuru, where she has lined up meetings with some of the royal families. “Many may not know that the Nizam of Hyderabad donated 5,000 kg gold to the National Defence fund during the Indo-China war of 1962,” says Begum, who will soon be leaving for Turkey, as part of her project.

Memories of the Ottomans

“Turkey is a region rich in world history. It is the place where the Ottoman empire reigned from 1299–1922. Due to its vast presence, history and gigantic size, it becomes the most sought-after destination for my heritage project,” says the Hyderabadi.

She says her great grandfather also got two Turkish princesses married to his first two sons. Prince Azam Jah married princess Durreshehvar, daughter of last caliph Abdulmejid II, who was the last heir apparent to the Ottoman throne and Moazzam jah was wed to princess Nilofer.

“So, Hyderabad and Turkey have strong bonds and ties since time immemorial,” says Begum, who has already scheduled her visits to various palaces including Topkapi Palace, Yildiz Palace, Ciragan palace, Maslak Kasri and Adile Sultan palace among others.

The Nizam’s heritage, which can be seen all through Hyderabad city, makes her nostalgic. “The exquisite jewels of the Nizam, which were once on display in Salarjung museum and sadly now lie in the RBI vault in Mumbai, need to be made available for the public to see,” she insists, pointing out that no matter how drastically fashion changes across the globe, one keeps going back to royal India’s treasured outfits.

“Most well-known designers work is based on antique designs. The royal outfits come with a cultural atmosphere and we need to connect with that style of clothing,” says Begum.

Honouring the traditional aesthetic

Begum is all set to launch a clothing line in keeping with her desire to honour the Nizam’s fashion aesthetic. Presently, she is making plans to popularise it not only in India, but also overseas. “I am working to recreate the royal outfits worn by the daughters and begums of the Asaf Jahi dynasty. I am on the lookout for artisans who can help me do that as working on real gold and Sancha fabric is something not every artisan can do,” she explains.

Her royal blog ‘lifeofbegum’ will debut soon. “It is part of my heritage project,” remarks Begum, who has been actively working with the Freedom Again Foundation, a Hyderabad-based NGO involved in philanthropy and humanitarian causes.

In between promoting her Asaf Jahi family heritage and highlighting royal India in every space possible, Begum takes a keen interest in horse riding, in tune with the most preferred activity of the royals back in the day.

Anya’s maiden India visit

In 2019, Anya visited India for the first time, embarking on a heartfelt trip with her father, a native of Pathankot in Punjab. Describing the visit as “special,” she fondly recalled her instant connection with relatives she had only ever known from afar. “It completely got me,” she shared, reflecting on how Indian culture had always felt close yet distant. “Even though we’d never met, we became so close so soon,” she said, noting the warmth and familiarity of her extended family. For her, it was an embodiment of India’s deeply rooted familial bonds, “where your cousins are actually like your siblings.”

While it took over two decades for her to visit her father’s homeland, Anya’s cultural ties had always been nurtured. Growing up, her father introduced her to Bollywood classics like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Main Hoon Na, and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, sparking her passion for acting. Her visit to India further inspired her to take up Hindi classes, deepening her connection to her roots. Shortly after that trip, her career reached new heights with the premiere of The Witcher, a performance that ultimately earned her recognition in Forbes' influential list.

Growing up in Britain 

Born in Wolverhampton, Anya grew up in Lower Penn village in South Staffordshire, UK, where she lived with her parents, and two siblings. She completed her schooling at the St. Dominic's Grammar School for Girls in Brewood, and later trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. 

She discovered her natural flair for performing at an early age. Like every Indian parents, his father too nudged her to sing for her relatives during a family gathering. She was only eight at that time. “We were having a family get-together, and he told me to sing an Indian song. And I knew, right then, that I loved attention,” she recalled.

Over the years, Punjabis in Britain have not only maintained their cultural identity but also thrived, contributing significantly to the country’s social, economic, and political landscape. From family-owned businesses to leaders in politics, academia, and the arts, British Punjabis have made their mark, blending heritage with a new sense of belonging. Gurudwaras, community centres, and cultural festivals like Baisakhi have become prominent symbols of Punjabi culture, while the community’s values of hard work, and unity have helped successive generations thrive. Today, Punjabis in Britain are celebrated as an integral part of the UK’s multicultural landscape, bridging continents with a legacy of tradition, pride, and progress.

Shining in all three seasons of Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ 

Yennefer of Vengerberg is a name that needs no introduction for fans of The Witcher. The saga began as a short story submitted to a Polish magazine in 1986, evolved into a multi-book series throughout the '90s, was adapted into a video game in 2007, inspired various comic book iterations over the past decade, and finally became a TV series for Netflix in 2019.

Yennefer of Vengerberg is a complex, powerful sorceress in The Witcher universe, known for her fierce independence, intelligence, and magical prowess. Born with physical deformities and enduring a difficult childhood, she transforms into a formidable and enchanting figure, both beautiful and skilled in magic. Her character’s journey from hardship to strength, and her intense bond with Geralt of Rivia, makes Yennefer one of the most intriguing and beloved figures in the series.

Anya Chalotara was a relative newcomer when she got the role on the grand scale fantasy drama and that too opposite ace actor Henry Cavill who played the role of Geralt. However, instead of struggling under the weight of the role's legacy, the actor embraced the challenge putting her heart and soul into the character of ancient sorceress that she portrays. 

In the series, she is the youngest member of the Council of Sorcerers and one of the most powerful mages, slaying monsters, saving lives, and transforming from a hunchbacked farm girl into a charming diva. 

“Yennefer is almost 100 years old, so it falls to me to find the middle ground between being someone who has seen a lot of the world and someone who is figuring things out on the go simply because the world around her is constantly changing,” she remarked talking about her character. 

Journey in acting

Before starting her career on screen, Anya had starred in several stage productions. In 2017 she was nominated for the stage debut award for best actress for her performance as Hero in a production of Much Ado About Nothing at Shakespeare’s Globe, London. Thereafter she performed in several stage productions.

Her first on screen role came in 2018 when she portrayed Jennifer Ashman in the BBC comedy-drama, Wanderlust. The same year, she appeared as Lily Marbury in BBC’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The ABC Murders, and then casting for other on-screen productions followed.

Striding past challenges

Anya Chalotra had to audition thrice for the role in The Witcher. “Every time I auditioned, I became hungrier for the role,” said the actress who considers the opportunity to play the role an ‘absolute gift’. The Witcher novels were written with white characters. However, looking at her talent the makers selected her for the role of Yennefer despite her being an actor of colour and far younger than the fictional character.

Although it was a moment of elation for her, she faced ridicule by many fans of The Witcher novels. They thought the choice of Yennefer’s character was not a good one. Many fans labelled her as ‘incapable’ or ‘inexperienced’ for such a plum role. Anya had to shut her social media accounts to escape the negative words of people who were writing her off even without seeing her work. 

“I wanted my journey to be very different. I wanted to allow the character to evolve organically, without any pressure, and I know that the only way to do that was to shut off my social media,” she explained. For all the eight months of filming of the first series she was not on Instagram and Twitter. She wanted to woo her fans by her good performance and hence just focused on her work, and stayed positive.

The hard work, focus, and dedication paid off when the first season aired. At the premiere of the first season, the Indian-origin actor proudly showcased her heritage by wearing a Manish Malhotra sari.

Today, Anya Chalotra and Yennefer are virtually inseparable in the minds of The Witcher fans, with Anya having filmed the first three seasons across the world. She is now busy shooting for Seasons 4 and 5, set for release later this year and in 2025. The Chai Box now sells thousands of bottles of chai concentrate and loose-leaf blends, shipped across the globe, including its spice-rich mixes inspired by Monica’s childhood in India. "I was not happy with how Chai was represented at local coffee shops and wanted to create something that showcased the Chai I grew up drinking. What started as a side-hustle in my basement has now grown to a full operation in a 4,000 square ft. facility," the Global Indian said.

Roots in India, Growth in Atlanta

Her deep connection to chai began long before The Chai Box was born. Growing up in an Indian household, she started drinking chai at the age of two and began blending teas by twelve. "For me, Chai is more than just a drink, it is a part of my culture and heritage. Ever since I was a little girl, Chai was an integral part of my family's daily ritual," she wrote on her website.

At nine, Monica moved with her family from India to Atlanta, where the transition to a new culture came with its challenges. As a newcomer to this country, amidst the horrors and bullying that can occur in school while trying to fit in, she sought comfort at home in soothing cups of chai. "Each morning, we fill our home with its warm and spicy aroma, connecting us to our roots, giving us a sense of calmness, and at the same time, energising us to take on the day," she added. These early experiences cemented chai as more than a beverage — it became a grounding force in Monica's life, a tradition she later passed on to her children​​​.

"After completing my Master's program at Vanderbilt University, she started my career in corporate America, working for one of the top 10 consulting firms in wealth management," she said, adding that she later switched her specialisation to human resource development. "Soon after starting a family, I opened my own consulting practice serving clients such as Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Emory's Goizueta School of Business, Chick-Fil-A, and Bell South."

A Family Tradition Turned Business

Monica's journey in creating The Chai Box began in her Atlanta kitchen, where the rich aroma of cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon wafted as she recreated the "chai time" ritual she grew up with in India. "Every Friday after school, I would have ‘chai time’ with my three boys to make sure my kids experienced the same ritual I shared with my parents as a child,” she said, that that when her boys got older, they wanted to her learn how to make chai. " I took a traditional spice box and filled it with tea leaves and all the spices you need to make Chai and included an index card with step by step instructions on how to make a cup of Chai. This is how all three of them learned how to make Chai."

Her spice blends, inspired by regional Indian flavours, soon caught the attention of friends and neighbours. "I started introducing them to our chai time rituals and they loved learning about authentic chai and wanted to purchase the chai box themselves," she added. Soon, the orders from friends and family started pouring in and The Chai Box started taking shape. It was during a visit to her family in Canada one summer that she a conversation with her cousin Neeteka over cup of coffee turned into a tea business idea.

The Chai Box grew organically, fuelled by the authenticity of Monica's approach. "We specialise in small-batch chai concentrate and handcrafted loose-leaf chai blends, all sustainably sourced from small-scale farmers in Kerala, India," she explained. She stays true to her mission of honoring heritage and embracing sustainability by working with family farms and composting tea mulch. They have partnered with Georgia-based Compost Now to compost the leftover tea and spices from tea production. "This initiative diverts waste and helps us create thousands of pounds of compost each year, supporting sustainability and reducing our environmental footprint," she added.

However, it was in 2021 that things took turn for the better when The Chai Box was spotted by Oprah's team at a trade show. Monica remembers the moment vividly: “We needed to splurge on a corner booth. It was a risk, but guess what? It paid off”​​. The inclusion of The Chai Box in Oprah’s list transformed her basement business into a global sensation, with orders flooding in from across the world.

The Indian Diaspora and Chai

For the Indian diaspora in the United States, chai is more than a drink — it’s a connection to their heritage. It reminds them of home, from mornings in busy kitchens to family gatherings over steaming cups. For many, chai brings comfort and a sense of belonging in a foreign land. Its preparation, with unique spices and methods, showcases the rich diversity of Indian traditions. Chai has become a way to keep their culture alive, shared through festivals, community events, and daily rituals. "The culture of chai is not a grab-and-go concept. It’s a time to take a pause and enjoy the process, to share that with family and friends."

It was under British colonial rule in the 19th century that tea was first introduced to India with the beginning of tea cultivation in Assam. By the mid-19th century, regions like Darjeeling and Nilgiri also emerged as key tea-growing areas. The British introduced tea to Indians as a cheap, mass-produced drink, but it soon gained widespread popularity, evolving into the iconic chai, spiced and sweetened to suit local tastes. Today, India is one of the largest tea producers in the world.

The Chai Box’s success isn’t limited to the United States. Monica’s blends, from the spicy Masala Chai to the floral Hill Station with cardamom and rose, have found fans in India and beyond. The brand’s expansion includes workshops, tastings, and even “Chai Meditations” on social media, where Monica shares the art of brewing a perfect cup. “I love the process of making chai—matching the spices to my wellness needs for the day. It’s my time, my meditation,” she said.

The Journey Ahead

Today, The Chai Box is more than a business — it's a bridge between cultures. Monica remains deeply rooted in her mission to honour her Indian heritage while innovating for a global audience. "Historically, the chai industry has been dominated by non-South Asian influences, but I’ve worked to change that narrative,” she said.

For Monica Sunny, the journey of The Chai Box is far from over. As she sips her morning chai, perhaps she’s dreaming up the next blend—a taste of nostalgia and a sprinkle of magic, ready to conquer the world one cup at a time.

Voice of reason: Dr. Meera Shah’s crusade for women’s reproductive rights

(October 19, 2022) A few months ago, scores of women took to the streets across America after the US Supreme Court overturned abortion rights in the country. Almost 50 years after American women's constitutional right to abortion was recognised, the country’s apex court effectively eliminated the right, allowing states to enforce a ban on abortions. Despite getting several threats from anti-abortion protestors and pro-life campaigners, Dr. Shah is resolute and passionate about her work. Recently, she even came out with a book 'You’re The Only One I’ve Told: The Stories Behind Abortion', a collection of narratives by women who have had abortions, countered stereotypes about them, or have fought myths that persist around the subject. “People have said that the book has been eye-opening,” she said during an interview, adding, "That in itself is destigmatising — the understanding that even the most basic facts about abortion that have been littered by the anti-abortion movement.” Dr. Shah is also the national medical spokesperson at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Standing for women's rights

Born to Jain immigrants from India, Dr. Shah was a brilliant kid growing up. In fact, she was so good at academics, that she had many career options after finishing high school. "The options were multiple choice. A, B, and C, doctor, lawyer, engineer: Pick one," she said to Elle Magazine, adding, "Reading and writing were my first loves. Going to the library or the bookstore was the biggest treat for me - that's how my parents would reward me for good behaviour."

Drawn to social justice work, Dr. Shah chose to become a doctor. A Fellow of Physicians for Reproductive Health, Dr. Shah earned a medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and a Master’s in Public Health from Columbia University. And it was during her residency days that she witnessed the struggle of women who chose to abort their fetuses. "An incredible mentor who is a very vocal activist for abortion access encouraged me to become an advocate for her patients in the day-to-day, as well as on a larger policy front."

When she first started working as an abortion provider, she struggled to tell people what she did - mostly because of the stigma attached to abortion. However, weeks of self-analysis, and leaning into her faith, Jainism, made her realise that she was helping those who were shunned not just by society, but many times by their own. "Supporting people and helping them exercise their autonomy is ethical, and the right thing to do," Dr. Shah told Elle.

The secret-keeper

After graduating from medical school, Dr. Shah joined Planned Parenthood, where she specialises in sexual and reproductive healthcare as well as transgenic care for transgender and gender non-binary people. She sees patients from all income levels, cultures, and races, and treats them equally. Listening to their stories of struggle motivated this Global Indian to dedicate her life to changing the narrative around abortion. For many years she hesitated to talk about her work. However, once she opened up, many women approached her with their own stories. "It was like the floodgates opened. I have become a sudden confidante at dinner parties, at rooftop barbecues, at the grocery store, even at jury duty… Being more open about my work helped people be more open about their own abortion stories," she described in the introduction to her new book, You’re The Only One I’ve Told: The Stories Behind Abortion.

Inspired and moved by the stories of many close friends and acquaintances, Dr. Shah began collecting stories of the survivors, which she later printed as a book. A champion of the reproductive rights of women, an activist, counselor, and advisor, Dr. Shah has described the nuance and richness of each subject’s life, both preceding and following the procedure. "I love to write and I thought this would be one other mechanism for bringing change. Each storyteller was able to edit their story. I sent a draft, and they made changes - because it's not my story, it's theirs.”

A board member of Sakhi, a community-based organisation in the New York metropolitan area committed to ending violence against women, Dr. Shah has observed that there is a lot of stigma and shame surrounding abortion in the South Asian community. "There are a lot of cultural nuances that go into somebody’s views on sex and abortion and unintended pregnancy. I see patients who are of South Asian identity all the time, and I am trying to bring this idea closer to the community because we just don’t talk about it very much," she told American Kahaani.

While much needs to be done for the cause, Dr. Shah is committed to her work. The young doctor is planning to start an advocacy support centre for women - especially of colour - who need any mental, medical or legal support before or after abortions.
